Pop-Up Lactation Spaces
If you have a visiting speaker or job candidate who needs a convenient lactation space, but there isn’t one nearby, we can help. Sometimes, the busy schedule of special events or interviews makes it hard for visitors to get to another building’s lactation room multiple times a day.
If you need to create a temporary space in your building, contact Lynn Wilkins at (662) 915-1295 or email lwilkins@olemiss.edu. She can assist you in planning a space that meets your guests’ needs while working in your area.
Need Help Purchasing a Breast Pump?
Employees covered by BCBS State & School Employees’ Health Insurance may qualify for breastfeeding equipment at reduced or no cost. Send BCBS your breast pump purchase receipt along with a medical claim form, and they will refund 100% up to $100, or order a pump through an approved durable medical equipment supply company (such as Edgepark Medical at 1-800-321-0591, or Better Living Now at 1-800-854-5729), and the company will handle your claim.
Call (800) 709-7881 with any questions.
Lactation Support
Nearly every nursing parent has questions and issues from time to time. Whether you are pregnant and learning all you can as you prepare to breastfeed, or an experienced nursing parent seeking advice or troubleshooting an issue, support is available.
On-Campus Support:
UM’s on-campus Breastfeeding Support Group for pregnant and nursing parents meets each Wednesday in September and April. We partner with Oxford MILC League coordinator and IBCLC-certified lactation consultant Jody Beth Wells to offer high-quality information and advice. Deeply informative and a lot of fun, meetings are in person with a Zoom option available. Email lwilkins@olemiss.edu for information. Partners and children welcome!
Nursing mothers can also access Mamava Lactation Pods in the Student Union, the Pavilion, and, on game days, the football stadium.
Community Resources:
(jody@magnoliafed.com) offers twice-monthly breastfeeding support meetings in Oxford. In addition, can match you with a lactation consultant (either in-person or via Telehealth). The Lactation Network operates nationwide and has lactation consultants in Oxford, Tupelo, Hernando, and other parts of our region. Most insurance plans cover the full cost of a consultant, and The Lactation Network will be able to tell you before you commit whether there would be any cost to you.
